COSATU condemns ZCTU arrest
Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU)
November 01, 2004

http://www.cosatu.org.za/press/2004/[Press]Cosatu_condemns_ZCTU_raid--9572.html

The Congress of South African Trade Unions condemns the raid by police on the home of Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) deputy secretary-general Collin Gwiyo, and their demand that he report to his local police station.

We share Collen Gwiyo's concern that this could be linked to last week's COSATU fact-finding mission to Zimbabwe, which was deported from the country within 24 hours. COSATU demands that no charges be laid against Collen Gwiyo or any other leaders of the ZCTU in connection with the mission and that they be free to continue their trade union activity on behalf of their members.

If any arrests are made, it will confirm the mission's impression that the human rights of Zimbabwe trade unionists are under attack and, in that event, COSATU will step up its campaign of solidarity and support for their fellow trade unionists. An injury to one is an injury to all!
