Dismissal of Equity Aviation Service Employees
Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU)
March 29, 2004

The General Secretary - Z. Vavi
COSATU
P. O. Box 1019
Johannesburg
South Africa

On behalf of the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) we like to convey our indignation at the recent dismissal of 150 workers at Equity Aviation Services in South Africa and we would like to offer our solidarity.

From the available information, it is clear that the dismissal of the 150 workers has been carried out on spurious grounds and this appears to be a very clear case of unfair dismissal in violation of South African Labour Laws and the ILO convention No.87.

The ZCTU views this as a deliberate victimization and violation of Human and Trade Union rights. We also consider the dismissal as a violation of Convention No.98 on the application of the principle of the right to organize and to bargain collectively.

The ZCTU urges SATAWU and COSATU to work flat out to see to it that the affected workers are unconditionally reinstated to work

Yours in Solidarity
