ZCTU withdraws representatives from NSSA board
Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU)
January 20, 2004

The Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) advises all workers that it has withdrawn its three representatives, Enock Gwayagwaya, Linda Manyenga and Thabitha Khumalo from the National Social Security Authority (NSSA) board.

This decision was taken at a General Council meeting on 12 December 2003 where by, the ZCTU felt that NSSA was not serving the interests of the workers and the Board has never made efforts to address any of its concerns.

The issues of concern to ZCTU are the following;

1. Amendment of the NSSA act in order to give more say or powers to the social partners
2. Demystification of NSSA operations
3. NSSA records and Audited Accounts
4. Investment of funds
5. NSSA benefits

Time and again, the ZCTU has sought audience with the Board Chairman to come and address the ZCTU General Council but the responses have always been evasive.

The ZCTU therefore notifies all workers that it will no longer be represented on the NSSA Board and any person from Labour (ZCTU) attending such meetings will be attending in one's individual capacity.

The ZCTU will only rescind its decision if and when NSSA puts its house in order.

Secretary General
