ZCTU leaders denied access to lawyers
Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU)
November 20, 2003

This is to inform you that the ZCTU and other leaders who were arrested on Tuesday are still in police custody and now they have been denied access to their lawyers.

The lawyers are at the moment in the process of applying for an urgent application in the High Court for the leaders to appear in court today or be released without any charges.

The Police had earlier separated the detainees into two groups, one comprising of the ZCTU leadership and the other of activists and had charged the second group under the Miscellaneous Offences Act while the ZCTU leaders were charged under the Public Order and Security Act for organising the strike.

Meanwhile other activists who were arrested in other cities have not yet been released and we are in the process of gathering more information about them.
