Infrastructure Manager - International Rescue Committee

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is currently preparing a proposal and is looking for an Infrastructure manager. The Infrastructure Manager will be responsible for overall management of infrastructure development activities as they relate to agriculture and irrigation works.

This position is contingent on IRC being awarded the cooperative agreement.

Responsibilities:

• Design and oversee implementation of individual infrastructure community works projects.
• Work with technical consultants and contractors as needed.
• Maintain working relationships with project stakeholders and partners.
• Coordinate with other project staff as needed for project implementation.
• Prepare and submit progress and financial reports.

Requirements:

• Minimum 4 years experience in engineering, irrigation or related infrastructure development work
• Strong management skills.
• Ability to work under pressure
• Possess strong interpersonal and intercultural skills that enable them to work well with a diverse team.
• Fluency in English required.

National Programme Officers for HIV and AIDS - UNESCO

UNESCO is seeking applications for National Programme Officers for HIV and AIDS in the following East and Southern Africa countries: Angola, Ethiopia, Kenya, Mozambique, Namibia, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe.

UNESCO is developing a project to support national scale-up of education sector responses to HIV and AIDS in a number of East and Southern African countries by:

• Enhancing the evidence base on HIV and education;
• Developing partnerships for action at global, regional and national levels;
• Supporting intensified implementation of comprehensive education sector responses at country level; and
• Delivering high quality technical support to support the response.

This project includes the appointment of high level national specialists in selected countries, in order to contribute substantively to national efforts.

The posts are all National Programme Officer posts, at level C (NOC) at UNESCO. The salaries are in accordance with UNESCO scales or, in the case of the non-presence countries, with UN scales. The appointments are for an initial period of 1 year, and may be extended for a second year and beyond, subject to funding and performance. Individuals engaged under the NPO scheme are governed by provisions of the UNESCO Staff Regulations and General Conditions applicable to National Programme Officers ("General Conditions") as established by the Director-General. NPO appointments provide adequate social security coverage and medical care.

Director - ACTION

ACTION, until recently, a project of Zimbabwe Trust, is a local NGO with interests in health, education, environment, social and community development communication. ACTION's goal is to facilitate social behavioural change. This is done through the use of edutainment products such as radio drama, print booklets and television programmes. ACTION's multimedia-based programme ensures that the Zimbabwean community is empowered and makes informed decisions. ACTION has been in existence since 1987 and for the past six years partnered with a South African-based NGO called Soul City: Institute for Health and DevelopmentCommunication. The position of a Director is on offer for a mission and goal focused, results oriented individual.

Key Performance Areas

• Provide strategic leadership to the organisation
• Plan and direct the organisation's activities to achieve agreed targets and standards
• Oversee the overall management of organisation's projects
• Identify and secure funds for the organisation
• Maintain ongoing strong relationship with donors, sponsors and financial partners
• Develop and implement governance and HR policies and procedures
• Establish and maintain appropriate systems for measuring necessary aspects of the organisational performance
• Determine training and development needs of staff
• Ensure that the organisation has appropriately skilled and functioning people to achieve optimal productivity and further the mission and vision of Action
• Lobby government ministries for policy review, for the advocacy and strategic partnership

Requirements for this position

• A post graduate degree or equivalent qualification in Social Sciences, Management or related fields.
• At least 5 years of experience in project management or related fields
• Proven track record in fund-raising for non profit organisations
• Proven innovativeness and team leadership skills
• Sound knowledge of financial management, budgeting, marketing and advocacy
• Computer literacy and driver licence
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills (English and other local languages).
• Analytical and strategic thinking
• Strong liaison, negotiating and problem solving skills
• Ability to maintain positive interpersonal relations
• Knowledge and understanding of operations of government, NGOs and local authorities related to health, environment, social and community development and education

AusAID's Human Rights Small Grants Scheme
Deadline: 2 October 2009
Applications are open to non-government organisations and human rights institutions in developing countries for projects that promote and protect human rights. The Scheme is a valuable way that Australia helps build the capacity of civil society and non-government organisations in developing countries to protect and promote human rights at the grassroots level.

This year, the grants scheme has expanded its geographical focus to include all of Africa and Latin America, in addition to the Asia-Pacific, Caribbean and Middle East. This will provide opportunities for organisations in more countries to participate.

Grants range from between AUD$20,000 and AUD$100,000 for one-year projects. Projects of up to AUD$150,000 over two years will also be considered. Successful grants will be announced by the Australian Minister for Foreign Affairs on Human Rights Day, 10 December 2009.

Art Moves Africa

Art Moves Africa (AMA) is an international none for profit organisation aiming to facilitate cultural and artistic exchanges within the African continent. AMA offers travel funds to artists, arts professionals and cultural operators living and working in Africa to travel within the African continent in order to engage in the exchange of information, the enhancement of skills, the development of informal networks and the pursuit of cooperation.

AMA supports mobility within the African continent by providing the costs of travel, visa and travel insurance for the duration of stay. AMA doesn't support fees, accommodations, or per-diem.

Who can apply? Artists and cultural operators living and working in Africa.

Which sectors? Performing and visual arts, music, cinema, literature and cultural advocacy

What type of projects? To establish partnerships, to participate in festivals, biennials, artist residencies, productions, touring, workshops and professional development meetings.

Entries are invited for the Zayed International Prize for the Environment. The Zayed Prize, awarded on a biennial basis, recognises and promotes pioneering contributions in the field of environment and sustainable development.

The Zayed Prize is classified into three award categories:

• Global leadership in environment and sustainable development: US$500 000
• Scientific/ technological achievements in environment: US$300 000
• Environmental action leading to positive change in society: US$200 000
