(two) Vacancies at Africa University

A clinical research project within Africa University, an institution
of higher learning is inviting applications for the following posts:
1. Study
Coordinator
Key Responsibilities:
- Overall coordination
of study protocol activities at the research site.
- Ensure communication
with regulatory authorities and monitors to obtain required approvals.
- Ensure that
study participant recruitment and retention goals are met
- Development
of SOPs.
- Direct supervision
of nurses, counselors and lab personnel and other clinical research
staff.
- Oversee the
management of study-related data.
- Coordinate
procurement of study-related materials and human resources.
- Monitor
study budgets
Qualifications
and Experience:
- A degree
(Masters preferred) in public health or related disciplines, social
sciences, behavioral science or social work. Basic nursing qualification
is an advantage.
- Knowledge
of clinical trials and GCP.
- Proven knowledge
of HIV.
- Previous
clinical research experience at supervisory level is essential.
2. Community
Liaison Officer
Key Responsibilities:
- Establishing
and maintaining Community Advisory Boards (CABs).
- Supervise
and monitor the activities of the CAB.
- Coordinate
the creation and implementation of the Community Engagement Plan.
- Oversee
implementation of the community engagement budget.
- Creating
and maintaining relations with the community and other stakeholders.
- Work with
Study Coordinator and research staff to ensure adequate recruitment
and retention of study participants.
- Documentation
and report writing.
Qualifications
and Experience:
- A degree
in social sciences, health education / promotion or other relevant
field.
- Excellent
verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrable
experience and interest in community work.
- Qualification
or experience in M & E, health or peer education or counseling
is an advantage.
- Strong networking
skills.

Deadline: September 08, 2009
The contest is open to all kids aged between 6 and 16 around the
world. You need to submit one colour image that you think captures
the spirit or idea of biodiversity. It could be a favourite tree
or a plant, an animal or an insect, even a whole ecosystem (from
your own back yard to somewhere you've visited on holiday) - your
image should show people why biodiversity is a good thing that we
should try to preserve. The lucky winners of the See the Bigger
Picture competition will be flown to Washington, D.C., with a parent
or guardian, to visit the headquarters of the National Geographic
Society. You can send your digital images as labelled jpegs files
or mail-in your submission, including image on CD. You also need

Leadership
and Advocacy for Women in Africa Fellowship Program
Deadline: September 30, 2009
The Leadership and Advocacy for Women in Africa Fellowship Program
at Georgetown University in the US is accepting applications from
female human rights lawyers. The entire LAWA Fellowship Program
is approximately 14 months long (from July of the first year through
August of the following year), after which the LAWA Fellows return
home to continue advocating for women's rights in their own countries.
The LAWA Program starts in July, when the Fellows attend the Georgetown
Law Center's Foundations of American Law and Legal Education course.
From August through May, the LAWA Fellows earn a Master of Laws
(LL.M.) degree at Georgetown with an emphasis on international women's
human rights and complete a major graduate paper on a significant
women's rights issue in their home countries. After graduation,
the LAWA Fellows then have an opportunity to engage in challenging
work assignments for several months at various public interest organizations
to learn about different advocacy strategies to advance women's
human rights, before returning home to continue advancing women's
human rights in their own countries. Find out more
