Intermediate Technology Development Group Southern Africa (ITDG) Technical
Enquiries Service

February 07, 2004

A lack of access to technical information can be a major constraint to development. Individuals at all levels need to be kept informed of innovations that may help them overcome poverty. Sharing knowledge of the activities of the poor and of other development organisations, is key to ensuring this information is available to all.

The Technical Information Service was created to address some of these needs by providing a means of accessing the wealth of technical information held by ITDG.

The Technical Information Service currently comprises of;

  • A Resource Centre holding periodicals, reports, books, videos, CD-ROMs and other documents on appropriate technology and development.
  • ITDG Technical Briefs, a series introductory fact sheets and basic practical information on appropriate technology in the areas of food processing, energy, transport, water & sanitation, and mining. The technical briefs have been written in response to the demand for information on a broad range of appropriate technologies. Topics covered include areas such as buttermaking, drying of foods, honey processing, soap making, wind pumps, solar water heating etc.

The ITDG Technical Enquiry Service supplies, free of charge, technical and developmental information to grassroots development workers, community-based organisations, NGOs and other agencies using appropriate technologies to implement sustainable development

Supporting this information, ITDG has many years of experience acquired through project implementation around Zimbabwe in a wide range of technical subjects.
