  • Amnesty reaction to unlawful detention of Zim lawyer
    Amnesty International
    March 18, 2013

In reaction to the continued detention of prominent human rights lawyer, Beatrice Mtetwa, in Zimbabwe, Amnesty International's southern Africa director Noel Kututwa said:

"Amnesty International is disturbed by the continued detention of Beatrice Mtetwa at Rhodesville Police Station in spite of a court order for her release."

"The Zimbabwean police must, without further delay, comply with the court order and unconditionally grant Ms Mtetwa her freedom."

"The arbitrary arrest and unlawful detention of Ms Mtetwa, against the back drop of a constitution making process, is a stark reminder of the work yet to be done to ensure Zimbabwe's security forces respect and protect human rights."
