Zimbabwean police
on Sunday 17 March 2013 arrested prominent human rights lawyer Beatrice
Mtetwa in Harare’s Avondale suburb on allegations of obstructing
or defeating the course of justice.
The arrest came
after Beatrice rendered legal assistance to Mr Thabani Mpofu, the
Director of Research and Development in Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai's
Office. Mr Mpofu's residence was raided and searched early Sunday
morning. The police also raided and searched an office along Bath
Road in Avondale suburb.
Beatrice was
taken to Harare Central Police by the police who also arrested Mpofu,
Warship Dumba, Felix Manditse and Annah Muzvidziwa.
ZLHR will release
more information once our lawyers who are attending to the case
at the Harare Central Police Station have updated us.
