Detained human rights defenders released on bail but further worrying allegations
Zimbabwe Human Rights NGO Forum
November 08, 2012

Redress Trust have just brought to our attention that Henry Dowa, one of the police officers implicated in the arrest of the Counselling Services Unit Human Rights Defenders has a well - known history of systematic human rights abuses. These include allegations of torture.

As a human rights organisation that helps torture survivors obtain justice and reparation by working with survivors to help restore their dignity and to make torturers accountable, Redress Trust would like to bring this case into public spotlight.

Although our lawyers representing the detained Human Rights Defenders have just informed us that the Hrd's have been released on bail, their arrest is a very worrying development at the country's current critical juncture. The involvement of Henry Dowa is even more worrying. Dowa is also allegedly involved in the current infamous case involving the 31 detained Human Rights Activists (the 'Glenview 31').
