Situations of political concern
Zimbabwe

A Zanu-PF village
head who is also a headmaster at Mbuya Nehanda Secondary school
in Mberengwa, Munyaradzi Ndlovu allegedly threatened to evict any
MDCs supporter from his village saying that they are sellouts.
Ndlovu who is
reportedly a member of the Zanu-PF Mberengwa District Coordinating
Committee (DCC), is said to have made the declaration last week
during his installation as village head for Moti village. He stated
that all MDC supporters will be evicted from the village soon.
According to
the MDC-T district secretary for party business, Wellington Shava
as quoted in the Zimbabwean newspaper's latest edition, the
new village custodian also promised to scratch MDC supporters from
government projects such as food aid.
Meanwhile, the
Standard newspaper for this week reports of a surge in human rights
violations. Notably, a quarterly report from a Masvingo based civic
organisation (Community
Tolerance, Reconciliation and Development) reveals that Masvingo
has experienced an escalation of political intimidation, arbitrary
arrests and
detentions over the period between May to August this year. The
report captures Gutu, Bikita Chivi and Mwenezi as the most affected
areas.
ZANU PF's
Mashonaland West arm has reportedly pulled out of the region's
JOMIC structures on accusations that the board is working with western
funded NGOS such as the Zimbabwe
Civic Education Trust and sympathizing with the MDCs formations.
Meanwhile, teachers
who fell victim to the soldiers' brutality in Mutoko following
the MDC rally are said to be living in fear and complaining that
the incident has seriously affected their daily business routines.
ZimRights is
greatly perturbed by rise of incidences of violence and call upon
responsible authorities act on it so as to restore peace and order.
Given the current state of affairs, with the country preparing to
go for a constitution referendum and possible election, there is
need to highlight on the vices of violence and how these will derail
development and progress.
