Condolence
message on the passing on of Eileen Sawyer
Zimbabwe
Peace Project (ZPP)
August 17, 2012
The Zimbabwe
Peace Project joins the rest of the Zimbabwean Civil Society in
mourning the passing on of veteran human rights defender and activist
Mrs. Eileen Sawyer.
Eileen worked
diligently and professionally in pre- and post-independence Zimbabwe
through her deep and passionate involvement in assisting the less
privileged, minority groups, the racially discriminated, the vulnerable
and the marginalised in the Zimbabwean society especially through
her role as the chairperson of the Legal
Resources Foundation and head of the Zimbabwe
Human Rights NGO Forum.
ZPP will always
cherish the close partnership in monitoring and documenting cases
of politically motivated violence in Zimbabwe with the Zimbabwe
Human Rights NGO Forum during Eileen's tenure as Executive
Director from 2002 - 2008.
Eileen must
also be credited and remembered for forging a positive relationship
between the government and the Legal Resources Foundation in terms
of offering training, producing legal publications and other services
that improved access to justice for ordinary people in Zimbabwe.
To the Sawyer
family, staff at the Zimbabwe Human Rights NGO Forum, and all her
friends and colleagues, ZPP confers its heartfelt condolences. Our
prayers are with you during this difficult period.
May Her Dear
Soul Rest in Eternal Peace
