  • Glenview 29 to appeal to Supreme Court
    Zimbabwe Human Rights Association (ZimRights)
    July 04, 2012

The 29 GlenView residents facing charges of murdering a police officer, Petros Mutedza have today been given the right to appeal for bail at the Supreme Court.

Presiding Justice Chinembiri Bhunu of the High Court had denied them bail last month claiming that they failed to provide special circumstances justifying their release as prescribed by section 117 (6) of the Criminal Procedure and Evidence Act.

Lawyers representing the 29 members are now working on the new bail application to be filed at the Supreme Court.

The members have been in remand prison since their indictment for trial in March.

Meanwhile, the trial of the 29 accused is expected to resume next week after Justice Bhunu makes his ruling on Friday in a separate trial that is before him.
