Court settles on trial date for "Glenview 29"
Zimbabwe Human
Rights Association (ZimRights)
May 18, 2012
The High Court
has finally settled the trial date for the incarcerated 29 Glenview
residents facing false charges
of murdering a police officer.
The 29, who
among them are Linda Musiya, Rebecca Mafukeni, Kerina Dhewa, Solomon
Madzore and the ZimRights National Coordinator, Cynthia Manjoro
will start to appear in court on the 4th of June 2012. The matter
is expected to appear in court daily over the month of June.
The accused
persons have been languishing in prison since the 1st of March,
when they were indicted. Efforts by lawyers to get them released
on bail were fruitless as the presiding judge demanded submission
of defence outlines as a condition for entertaining the matter.
The matter had previously been postponed several times for various
reasons. Their last appearance in court was in March. Since then,
there has been no communication from the responsible authorities.
