Human rights defender Sten Zvorwadza to go on trial tomorrow
Restoration of Human Rights (ROHR)
February 13, 2012
Human rights
defender and businessman, Sten Zvorwadza is going on trial tomorrow
at Mbare magistrate court to face trumped up charges of undermining
the state and 'posing a threat to future violence.' The trial
is set to commence at 0900 hours.
Zvorwadza was
arrested
last month on the 28th of January at Mbare Matapi police station,
in a surprise move while he was filing a complaint against notorious
ZANU PF youths. The youths were demanding the closure of his business
in Mbare on allegations that he is a supporter of the MDC.
ROHR Zimbabwe
has condemned the arrest and abuse of discharge of office by state
arms using state resources carelessly to harass human rights defenders
in the backdrop of known criminals masquerading as ZANU PF members
committing crimes with impunity.
