  • Madzore bail application postponed again
Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR)

    November 22, 2011

High Court Judge, Justice Maria Zimba Dube on Tuesday 22 November 2011 postponed the bail hearing of Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) Youth Assembly chairperson, Solomon Madzore, who is accused of murdering a police officer, Inspector Petros Mutedza to Wednesday 23 November 2011.

The postponement was the fourth one inside one week after several deferments last week by Justice Hlekani Mwayera.

Justice Dube on Tuesday 22 November 2011 postponed the hearing after requesting for time to peruse the State's response to the fresh bail application for Madzore which was filed by his lawyer Gift Mtisi of Musendekwa and Mtisi Legal Practitioners.

In his fresh bail application, which is being opposed by the State Madzore's lawyer argues that his client now deserves to be granted bail because of changed circumstances and that enough time has elapsed to allow the police to complete investigations as per their indications.

Mtisi has also filed an affidavit deposed to by a medical doctor confirming that Madzore was nowhere near the incident as he had accompanied his wife to the doctor's chambers.

Madzore was arrested early last month and charged with murdering Inspector Mutedza.

Justice Mwayera dismissed his first bail application last month after ruling that he was a flight risk.
