October 26, 2011

Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai on Wednesday 26 October 2011 fielded questions from legislators during the reintroduced question and answer session in the House of Assembly, which provides an opportunity to interrogate government policies and programmes.

Tsvangirai responded to several questions posed by Members of Parliament from both his Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) party and President Robert Mugabe's ZANU PF party including Hon. Marvelous Khumalo, Hon. Collin Gwiyo and Hon. Edward Raradza among others.

Parliament reintroduced the Prime Minister's Question and Answer session in the House of Assembly on Wednesday, which will run every last Wednesday of the month and every last Thursday of the month in the Senate.

On Wednesday Tsvangirai fielded questions on rising incidences of violence engulfing the country and the controversial WikiLeaks disclosures, where some members of his party and some senior ZANU PF members bad mouthed their leaders during engagements with United State's embassy officials. He also reacted to questions regarding the government's commitment to support farmers during this year's agricultural season.

The MDC leader also responded to questions pertaining to his position regarding issues of embracing gays and lesbians' rights in the new constitution and the security of the country's state secrets.

The Prime Minister's Question and Answer session subsisted up to the late 80's when Zimbabwe adopted the executive Presidency where legislators would get an insight into the operations of the government.
