Lawyers challenge police ban of MDC rally
Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR)

October 21, 2011

High Court Judge Justice Maphios Cheda will on Saturday 22 October 2011 hear an Urgent Chamber Application filed by lawyers from Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights seeking to overturn a police ban on a Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) rally scheduled for Nkayi on Saturday.

Nkayi police on Friday 21 October 2011 banned the MDC rally which they had initially approved citing that violence would break out at the gathering which is scheduled to be addressed by the party's leader Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai.

Justice Cheda will hear the application filed by ZLHR lawyer Nosimilo Chanayiwa at 10:00 hrs, an hour before the scheduled rally.
