ROHR Zimbabwe's statement ahead of the SADC summit
Restoration of Human Rights (ROHR)
June 11, 2011

ROHR Zimbabwe commends SADC for the renewed commitment to deal with the decade long Zimbabwean crisis that continues to be a threat to the stability of the region. The Zimbabwean people bear the brunt of the resultant effect of a prolonged lasting solution to a crisis that has robbed them of a future, hope, human rights, decent standards of living, economic development, freedom and constitutional liberties.

It is our fervent expectation as human rights defenders that we are at an appointed time in which no amount of deceit can conceal evidence or hoodwink the SADC heads of states on the cause of the Zimbabwean crisis after grappling for many years entrenched deep in an oppressive system.

As part of the demands of the Zimbabwean people, we reiterate our call that there will not be free and fair elections in Zimbabwe before security sector reforms are made to dismantle the state's machinery for violence, intimidation and torture. As it stands now the security sector and other vital state arms are an extension of one political party (ZANU PF) at the detriment of the majority of Zimbabweans who do not subscribe to the myopic ideology of a one party state.
