Zimbabwe Human
Rights Association (ZimRights)
May 31, 2011
Several MDC
supporters and their families have been arrested
following the death of a policeman after violence erupted in Glen
View. The MDC claim that its supporters were arrested on the 30th
March before police made any investigations into the matter.
In another report,
no assailants have been picked up yet for the homes
that were burnt three months ago in Cashel Valley Manicaland,
despite the victim's claim that they know the culprits. The
victims are said to be MDC supporters and the suspected perpetrators
are staunch ZANU PF supporters. To date, the victims are still housed
at the MDC Manicaland offices as they have nowhere to go.
Meanwhile, ZANU
PF continues to advocate for elections to be held this year. ZANU
PF National Chairman Simon Khaya Moyo is reported to have synthesized
the call during a meeting with Dutch ambassador to Zimbabwe Barbra
Joziasse. It has been reported that Moyo revealed that there is
need to got for elections because MDC policies and ZANU PF polices
are parallel.
In a case believed
to be a reaction to the call for elections, there are reports that
MDC youths supporters in Muzvezve are now living in fear following
allegations that ZANU PF MP Peter Harritatos is coercing people
to attend his rallies which he started as part of his campaign
