Political temperature towards a Zimbabwean "election"
Zimbabwe Human Rights Association (ZimRights)
May 19, 2011

Recent reports have revealed that ZANU PF said it is prepared to go for an un-contested election if other political parties refuse to participate in elections. A repetition of the 2008 June run off.

Meanwhile, MDC-T youth have declared war on ZANU PF, during their commemoration of one of human activist Tonderai Ndira, who fell victim to ZANU PF militia in the 2008 election violence. The MDC T youth assembly secretary general Promise Mkwanazni said the youths were prepared to defend themselves against ZANU PF. Backing him up was the MDC T youth assembly, Solomon Madzore who said they are prepared to die for MDC only but also to defend their parents by any means necessary.

In other reports, the forty families who refused to leave Chiadzwa demanding fair compensation were forcibly removed from their homes. The mining form that was granted licence by government at Chiadzwa recruited soldiers to evacuate these families. Property were destroyed during the operation. Poor families that originally inhabited the area have been forced to move without fair remuneration, while some were violently removed for resisting. This was greatly pedaled by selfish political agendas that have brought a lot controversy to the Chiadzwa diamond.
