Community Tolerance Reconciliation and Development (COTRAD)

    March 07, 2011

Community Tolerance Reconciliation and Development vehemently castigates the judicial system and the office of the attorney general for perverting justice by the continuous detention of Munyaradzi Gwisai, the leader of International Socialist Organization and former MDC member of parliament for Highfield constituency and 44 other members of the broader alliance in democracy and other youth organizations.

The 45 were arrested whilst discussing democratic issues and are now facing allegations of plotting to oust the Zimbabwean government of the day which is claimed to be a constitutional government whilst in actual fact it was never voted into existence by the Zimbabweans.

It is questionable why they were arrested for watching videos. It has been part and parcel of their educational policy and why now especially after the utterances by Mnangagwa and Sabau aimed to suppress public opinion and expression. COTRAD in this wake castigates and questions the sincerity of the national healing and peace building process. There is need for the government to let freedom of opinion, expression and association to prevail.
