"Violence
is a cancer destroying our nation" - Chief Chivi
Community Tolerance Reconciliation and Development (COTRAD)
March 03, 2011
Chiefs, their counterparts in traditional ruling like headmen's
and other family members including youth have castigated violence
pointing out that it endangers national renewal.
At Muzvidziwa
business center which is in Chivi, Chief Chivi also pointed out
that without meaningful engagement people will continue to be rocked
by political violence, political intolerance, hate language, fear
and deception.
Some youth have
also considered that national healing, reconciliation and tolerance
which are so vital for national well being never seem to be given
much serious by the leaders of the three legged coalition.
Many young people
present concurred with their traditional leaders and they went on
to utter that violence is a cancer destroying our nation.
Headmen Gororo
went on to say that all violence perpetrators must be prosecuted
so that no one is seen committing crime with impunity.
More so, panelist
present told the gathering to desist from intimidating and mistreating
members of the community, maintain peace, uphold human rights and
accept diverse political views.
Some of the
panelist like chief Bere narrated the ordeal of human rights dating
back from the pre-colonial era he postulates that during the pre-colonial
era violence and killing each other was a serious crime and was
not allowed and all perpetrators of violence were prosecuted by
the Dare.
However some
misguided youth officers from different constituency in Chivi wanted
to derail the process organized by Community Tolerance Reconciliation
and Development (COTRAD) but their efforts were thwarted by the
progressive chiefs who were present.
