Makoni North residents forced to register with ZANU PF
Zimbabwe Human
Rights Association (ZimRights)
November 04, 2010
Makoni North
residents in Manicaland province are reported to be living in fear,
due to continued intimidation by alleged ZANU PF supporters.
A ZimRights
member recently informed the organisation's Mutare office
that alleged ZANU PF supporters under the leadership of two distinct
chairpersons namely David Tapfumaneyi Muzarabani and Dhodho are
moving around ward 8, in the Headlands constituency, requesting
everyone to register their names with the new ZANU PF chairpeson.
All the people who said views that were inconsistent to ZANU PF
doctrines during COPAC meetings are also being ordered to register
their names and publicly profess that what they said during COPAC
meetings was wrong. They have also been forced to denounce allegiance
to MDC.
Uniformed security
personnel, identifying themselves as army colonels, in the company
of Dhodho visited Anoldane Mission in ward 8, and requested for
the names of all people who spoke during COPAC meetings, breaching
the command that only a selected few would speak at the meeting.
They said they want to teach these people a lesson so that they
know the right path to follow.
However the
ZimRights' member who reported this, assured ZimRights that
irrespective of the initimidation and victimisation, the people
are saying they will not be deterred, rather they will continue
to soldier on until democracy is the language of every Zimbabwean.
They also requested ZimRights to hold more human rights awareness
activities so that more people, including these and other violence
perpetrators, understand what rights are and the rewards of upholding
them. The ZimRights member said that this will also be an opportunity
for the organisation to know how the people in the area are living.
ZimRights will
continue to penetrate into all communities to educate people on
human rights, with the aim of nurturing a peaceful and violent free
culture in Zimbabwe.
