ZimRights voice in the 2010 national budget
Zimbabwe Human
Rights Association (ZimRights)
October 18, 2010
ZimRights calls
for its members and other members of civil society to attend and
input in the 2011 national budget which is set to start tomorrow,
19 October to the 22nd , at the Parliamentary Portifolio Committee
on Budget, Finance and Investment Promotion meetings.
One meeting
will be held per province and all are commencing at 9 am. The first
meeting was held at Gweru Theatre on the 14th. Tomorrow's
meeting will be held in Bulawayo at the Small City hall. This will
be followed by a meeting in Masvingo on the 20th at the Civic Centre.
Queens hall in Mutare will host one on the 21st. The final meeting
has been scheduled for Harare on the 22nd in the Caucus Room, Parliament
Building.
This is a chance
for human rights activists and defenders to contribute towards the
proper management of national funds as well as push the agenda for
public accountability. As an organisation, Zimrights advocates for
the inclusion of socio-economic rights in the upcoming constitution
hence it is part of our campaign to attend and contribute during
the meetings to ensure that next year's budget incorporates
funding for these rights. The government must make provision for
funds directed to development programs like education, health and
the production industry, instead of concentrating most funds to
military and luxurious cars for government officials.
All members
who will not be able to attend these meetings, but want to contribute,
are advised to send submissions to the Parliament Committee Clerk
Mr C. Ratsakatika.
