Constitution outreach meetings in the eight provinces are scheduled to be completed by the end of next week, with most of the teams moving into their last districts tomorrow.

According to a COPAC report released today, Manicaland is the only province that is lagging behind. However, outreach meetings in the province are also expected to be finalised soon, because teams operating in other provinces will join the Manicaland team soon after they complete their meetings.

The report gives the figure of participants as at 6 September as 648 042. Youth participation remains low, constituting 19.6% of total participation while only 3 718 participants have been from special needs groups.

Thus, as part of the agenda of the COPAC co-chairs briefing with UN Agencies and representatives of special interest groups, (women, children, youth, human rights organisations and people living with disabilities) COPAC said it would be holding consultation meetings with the youth and special needs groups in their different institutions where they are comfortable; or where most are found.

Meanwhile reports in Manicaland show that although outreach teams started Makoni today, some areas in Chipinge, which was supposed to be rounded up yesterday, will be revisited later because the meetings were not conducted for different reasons. At Cheche and Ratelshook, the outreach teams had to abandon the meetings because of violence, while at Taka, no one turned up.
