  • ZimRights produces national healing documentary
    Zimbabwe Human Rights Association (ZimRights)
    June 17, 2010

In a bid to contribute to the national healing process, Zimbabwe Human Rights Association (ZimRights) has created a documentary-titled "Article VII Voices for healing."

The documentary takes cognisance of the need for the promotion of equality, national healing, cohesion and unity as stated in Article VII of the Global Political Agreement (GPA).

Premised on the need for a healing process to occur in Zimbabwe, the documentary gives people in grassroots communities a chance to speak out on the direction the national healing process should take. People speak out on who should lead the process and what should be done to bring about true healing in the country.

The documentary is the culmination of public meetings held by ZimRights in over twenty areas in the country. A theatre production entitled "Heal the wounds" by Rooftop promotions was used to initiate debate in the communities on what they would like to get out of the healing process. It emerged that most communities would like the process to be decentralised so that they can dictate the pace of healing and reconciliation for themselves. People have indicated to the notion that the national healing organ must not prescribe solutions, but should carry out consultations on how communities want the process to be done.

Production of the documentary would not have been possible without the support of the Media Project of Zimbabwe, Zimbabwe Peace Project and Solidarity Peace Trust which availed some of its footage to ZimRights. The organisation extends its sincere gratitude to SPT and all the other organisations who participated and made this documentary possible.
