ZUNU
PF supporter stabbed to death Rata Village, Mwenezi East, Masvingo
ZPP is deeply
concerned with reports of retributive violence taking place around
the country. Inter-party violence continues to be reported in the
provinces unabated. These acts violate the letter and spirit of
the Global
Political Agreement (GPA) specifically articles 10 and 18.
According to article
10 the parties agreed that '...there should be free political activity
throughout Zimbabwe within the ambit of the law in which all political
parties are able to propagate their views and canvass for support,
free of harassment and intimidation...' Article 18 of the GPA which
deals with security of persons and prevention of violence, in section
18.5 (a) provides,'that the parties agreed to promote the values
and practices of tolerance, respect, non-violence and dialogue as
a means of resolving political differences.'
It is against
this background that ZPP is concerned about the continued loss of
life as a result of political violence. In a recent act of retribution,
a Zanu PF supporter, Nhamo Munechi was stabbed to death on Saturday
3 April 2010 around 2100hrs by Edron Mangove in Rata Village. It
is reported that Nhamo Munechi harassed and assaulted Clever and
Edron Mangove in the run up to the 2008 Presidential Run-Off election
on allegations of being MDC supporters leading to them fleeing to
South Africa. Upon their return the two brothers, met Nhamo at a
Zion Church gathering where they assaulted him before Edron stabbed
Nhamo in the abdomen once and disappeared. Nhamo who is alleged
to have been part of the ZANU PF militia is accused of having terrorised
people in 2008 elections. Nhamo was taken to Neshuro clinic where
he was transferred to Masvingo General Hospital but he died on the
way. Clever was arrested but released after the police discovered
that his brother Edron was the one who had stabbed the victim. Edron's
whereabouts were still unknown at the time of writing the report.
Update

The
Zanu PF Supporter laid to rest
In a latest development,
Nhamo Munechi, who was stabbed on 3 April 2009, by Edron Mangove,
was buried on Saturday, 10 April 2010 in Mwenezi. The MP for Mwenezi,
Kudakwashe Bhasikiti informed the mourners that all MDC meetings
and constitutional awareness workshops were barred in the area.
He is reported to have said that it is these kind of meetings that
led to the death of the ZANU PF supporter. The statement by the
MP, however, can lead to fresh sparks violence in the area as ZANU
PF supporters may want to avenge the death of their own. ZPP strongly
condemns the use of violence to settle disputes and implores the
organ on national healing, reconciliation and integration to play
its role to ensure that peace and tranquility is restored among
the people. " . . . let peace prevail . . . "
