Missing state security agent found dead
Zimbabwe Human Rights Association (ZimRights)
April 14, 2010

State security agent, Innocent Makamure who had been missing for nearly two weeks was found dead Monday afternoon.

Makamure went missing after he disparaged President Robert Mugabe in public and confirmed his role in the torture and harassment of the Movement for democratic Change (MDC) activists on behalf of the government. In his public apology to villagers in Murambinda, he confessed to having been used as part of a team of hit men based at Gaza business centre in the village, but gained nothing out of it.

His body was discovered floating in Mwerahari River, after family members intensified searches. Manicaland Police spokesperson inspector Philip Makomere said they had not yet received confirmation from police at Murambinda growth point that the dead body found was that of Makamure. Makamure's family members expressed their resentment of the unreformed ZANU PF, who have tortured and intimidated human rights defenders for fighting for what is right.

ZimRights condemns this unwarranted gross abuse of human rights. It is paramount that people realise the need for truth telling and accountability in efforts towards implementation of justice, thus forgiveness and national healing.
