detain ZCTU employees

Mutare police
on Tuesday 2 March 2010 arrested three Zimbabwe
Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) employees who were attending
a training workshop in the eastern border city.
The ZCTU employees namely
Tenson Muchefa, the regional representative for Manicaland, Adrian
Mugwanju, a paralegal and Gilbert Marembo, the ZCTU's circulation
officer were attending the labour union's Regional Women's
Advisory Council's civil and legal training at Mount View
Hotel.
Muchefa and Marembo,
who were detained at Mutare Central Police Station and were represented
by Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) projects lawyer Blessing
Nyamaropa were released without any charges preferred against them.
Mugwanju, who was charged
with criminal nuisance was later freed after paying a $20 fine after
the police indicated that they would detain him and take their time
to prepare his docket.
ZLHR will be challenging
the payment of the fine by Mugwanju.
