MDC Councilors seek refuge
Zimbabwe Human Rights Association (ZimRights)
December 17, 2008

Eleven MDC councilors have fled their Bindura homes after the police arrested councilor Norbert Dhokotera and three other activists on Tuesday. December 16, 2008. The three are being detained at Bindura Central Police stations for reasons not yet established. These arrests have come three days before the annual people's congress scheduled for Bundura this Friday (December 19, 2008). This move by the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP)has prompted 11 other MDC councilors to flee from their homes amidst the abductions that have been on the rampage country wide.

Zimbabwe Human Rights Association (ZimRights) is concerned with the increase in the number of opposition activists and leaders who are constantly in police custody. The incidences are of concern to the association because we had hoped that the Global Political Agreement (GPA)) was going to bring some sort of stability in the country and the opposition would be allowed to operate freely. We urge the responsible authorities to bring a balance in the way they handle political activists from the diverse political parties.
