Two abducted ROHR Zimbabwe activists found
Restoration of Human Rights (ROHR)
October 31, 2008

Moses Shorai Mutasa (30) and Memory Chashayele (26) who were abducted on Monday 27 October 2008 for participating in a peaceful protest organised by ROHR Zimbabwe have been found. They are shaken and in deep pain caused by the extremely brutal assault they endured in the hands on their abductors. They were abducted by Zanu PF youths believed to be under the command of Elliot Manyika, the national Zanu PF commissar.

Memory escaped at 1400hrs the same day from the Zanu PF building. She said the thugs were threatening to kill her because they feared she would go around telling people that Zanu PF beats up people. She was rescued by a sympathetic member of the Central Intelligence Organization who sneaked her out of the building. ROHR Zimbabwe rushed her to the hospital on wednesday when her return was registered with the office.

Moses spent the whole night in the torture chambers, known as the 'dark rooms' inside the Zanu PF headquarters only to be released Tuesday at 0900hrs. He was snatched away against his will from the public at Net One building, a few meters away from Harare International conference centre (HICC), the venue of the SADC troika meeting aimed at brokering a solution to the current political impasse. He said 12 Zanu PF thugs in a unidentified white truck, pounced on him and drove off at full speed together with three other activists who he could not identify. They beat him up all the way to the Zanu PF headquarters. They stomped all over Moses' body while he lay flat in the truck. They shouted insults and accused him of engaging in protests which they claim were meant to embarrass President Robert Mugabe. X-ray results show that he suffered six fractured ribs.

3 people of the many people who were beaten by the Zimbabwe Republic Police for participating in Monday demonstrations were still in hospital as of 30 October.

ROHR Zimbabwe is greatly perturbed by the barbaric behavior of police and the apparent display of ignorance on the part of Zanu PF, who have failed to convince to the world and people of Zimbabwe in particular that they are committed to a Government of National Unity with opposition. Meanwhile, the lives of ordinary Zimbabweans continue to deteriorate and plunge deeper into deep catchment of economic plagues. People are dying daily of hunger, poverty, cholera and other diseases while the political players in Zimbabwe and the SADC region seem to want to take their time.
