Violence
continues after the 27 June election

ZPP has received reports that violence is still going on in most
provinces in Zimbabwe and Midlands being one of the most affected
provinces. Human rights are continuing to be violated by ZANU-PF
members what is disturbing is the impunity with which violence is
perpetrated. A number of murder cases in the Midlands have also
been reported. It has also been noted from the reports received
that some people who have been victims previously have turned into
perpetrators themselves either to protect themselves or in retaliation
to violations perpetrated against them. Two such cases have been
recorded.
Midlands
Gokwe
Kabuyuni
It is reported at that a war veteran named Nkomo was fatally assaulted
by MDC supporters on 30 June, 2008. It alleged that the victim had
earlier in the day went round the villages of all known and suspected
MDC supporters issuing letters of eviction advising that victims
leave the area for the United Kingdom by midnight on the day. Later
at night the war veteran is said to have gone back to the villages
to follow up if the people had vacated and only found that the villagers
had ganged up to beat him. He was severely beaten and left for dead
and died on the way to hospital.
Mkoba
On June 23, 2008, T Njanji of Zanu PF was reportedly fatally assaulted
by MDC supporters after he had operated in an act of violence against
MDC supporters where three of the MDC supporters' houses were
torched including the house belonging to the MDC MP for Mkoba. It
is reported that the deceased was captured, and severely assaulted
for four hours while blindfolded and handcuffed and was left for
dead and eventually died four days later on the 27th of June 2008.
His colleagues are said to have alerted the police and the perpetrators
were apprehended and immediately released without charge.

Chireya
A MARS ambulance which had gone to collect victims of violence from
Gokwe Chireya was impounded by police at Gokwe centre on, 6 July
2008.

ZANU-PF attacked MDC refugees at Chinyaradzo in Gokwe on 6 July
2008, many people died and some were injured. Survivors were scattered
in the forests and specific figures are still to be ascertained.
Matshekanduba
ZPP also received a report of six people who allegedly were murdered
on the 3rd of July at Matshekanduba 30kms from Gweru along the Kwekwe
rail siding. Bodies were still at Gweru mortuary and there are reports
of relatives being denied access to identify the bodies.
It is alleged
that a Councillor (name supplied) of Ward 7D in Gokwe Nembudziya
is leading ZANU-PF supporters (names supplied) in an orgy of violence
in the Nembudziya area.

Mapfungautsi
On June, 27, 2008, two suspected MDC supporters (names available)
of Gwenyika ward in Chief Njelele area are reported to have fled
to the nearby forests for fear of their lives. It is alleged that
in the area, on the day of elections, Zanu PF polling agents were
taking down ballot paper serial numbers to see those who had voted
for their party and those who had not. All those that had voted
for Zanu PF are said to have submitted the serial numbers to the
polling agents and it was discovered that the two had not voted
for Zanu PF. Zanu PF supporters were now after them and they fled.
The two are still in the bush and relatives taking food to them
in the bush. Relatives are appealing for assistance that their folks
are provided with a safe hiding place.
Mkoba
It is reported that an MDC supporter (name supplied) a brother to
the just elected MP for Mkoba also (name supplied) was killed in
a politically motivated incident which took place on the night of
June 26, 2008. It is alleged that on his way from his brother's
house in Mkoba, the victim was kidnapped; blind folded, and severely
assaulted with blunt instruments and was left for dead. It is alleged
that his perpetrators who were identified as Zanu PF supporters,
after assaulting him, drove him and dumped him near the Gweru Provincial
hospital where he was admitted in the Intensive Care Unit and later
died the same night.
Harare
It is alleged that a Chitungwiza factory belonging to Kambuzuma
Member of Parliament elect Madzimure was petrol bombed in the early
hours of 6 July 2008.
