Congress of Trade Union (ZCTU) President and Secretary General
respectively, were today 12 May 2008 remanded in custody to the
23rd of May. The two were arrested last week on allegations of inciting
public violence on May Day.
A consignment of 1000
T-shirts intended for distribution in Bulawayo and Hwange by the
ZCTU were confiscated by the police on Friday the 9th of May 2008
evening at the National Railways of Zimbabwe. The T-shirts were
taken to the Law and Order Section at Harare Central Police Station.
The police demanded to know where the T-shirts were being taken
to and who was behind the campaign, constantly accusing the holder
of intending to incite violence through the message printed on them.

than 24 hours without food. He was tortured, interrogated and forcibly
rolled on sand. Vava lost everything in his possession including
