    Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition
    April 08, 2008

    The News . . .
The High Court has ruled the application by the MDC to treat the case against the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) to release the results as urgent. By the time of going to press, the lawyers were presenting the merits of their case in the courts. 9 dark days enveloped with mixed emotions have elapsed since the March 29 Harmonized Election which saw Zimbabweans casting their votes for the president, members of parliament, senators and councilors. No official announcement of the presidential results has been made by ZEC.

The mysterious silence surrounding the presidential results points to a possibility of a rigged election as Zanu Pf is reportedly engaged in malicious allegations against ZEC officials who were, (according to today's Herald 08 April 2008), arrested yesterday for allegedly tempering with results.

Zanu-PF legal committee member Patrick Chinamasa yesterday announced that the party was still waiting for a response from ZEC on its request for a recount of the presidential results in some constituencies yet these have not yet been announced. What is also shocking is the fact that The Herald has been publishing that a run off is expected yet the results have not been officially announced.

The ruling party went on to accuse ZEC of working together with the opposition party the MDC as evidenced by the statement by the party's secretary for administration, Didymus Mutasa, who told journalists after the party's politburo meeting last Friday that some ZEC officials connived with the opposition to manipulate results in favour of Morgan Tsvangirai. He also stated that the March 29 2008 elections have been the worst he has ever witnessed in Zimbabwe.

All these allegations and arrests are deliberate efforts to face-lift the party's ploy to rig the election results. The Zanu PF race rate smacks an egg to the concept of accountability and respecting the democratic rights of a people. One is left wondering what is going to happen come Independence Day in 10 days. Zimbabweans are therefore urged to come together and demand the release of the presidential results.

    Meanwhile, political violence continues . . . ..

    Nyanga . . .
Defeated Nyanga North Zanu Pf candidate-Paul Kadzima is reported to have engineered a beating of all suspected MDC supporters this afternoon. By the time of going to press, the Kadzima team had begun their witch hunt which is feared to displace many residents.

    Mutare . . .
A headmaster at Hartzel Central Primary School, Mutare Shadreck Mufute was abducted around 00:30 hours by suspected state operatives driving vehicles without registration.

Mufute was the presiding officer at Five Stream polling station where Zanu PF is seeking a recount of the ballot papers. He is feared to have been taken to the Zanu PF torture base in Penalonga.

    Gweru . . .
Meanwhile, Patrons were last night assaulted by soldiers in Mkoba 14 and 6 in Gweru. This led to some of the patrons being heavily injured after being ordered to roll on tarmac and accused of selling out to the MDC.
