Crisis
in Zimbabwe Coalition
October 11, 2007
Mr. Arnold Tsunga, the
Board Chairperson for Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition has won the prestigious
Human Rights Watch's Human Rights Defenders Award.

announced the winner together with a fellow human rights lawyer,
Mandira Sharma from Nepal, Human Rights Watch announced today, 11
October 2007.
The two human rights
defenders will be honored at the 2007 Human Rights Watch annual
dinners taking place in London, Munich, Hamburg, and Geneva. These
two are putting up a fight to uphold the rule of law as it is a
powerful weapon to tackle an abusive and exploitative government.
In awarding Mr. Tsunga
and his colleague, the award, Human Rights said: "We are all
inspired by the work of Mandira Sharma and Arnold Tsunga. They fight
everyday to uphold the rule of law because they know it's
the strongest weapon against abusive forces in government or out."
The Zimbabwean
human rights lawyer, who heads the Zimbabwe
Lawyers for Human Rights, becomes the legit honoree because
of his courage to stand for the oppressed against violent and oppressive
state machinery.
Over the years, Mr. Tsunga
faced arrests, intimidation, beatings and harassment by the state
security agents for promoting, protecting and defending human rights
of the poor, disadvantaged and oppressed Zimbabweans.
