Overview

In the report, the Human Rights Forum notes a number of issues relating to:

- the arrest and detention of Andrew Makoni and Alec Muchadehama by the police which has been widely seen as an intimidation tactic against human rights defenders.

- the arrest of renowned lawyer Jonathan Samkange at 1 am by the police led by one Superintendent Nyamupaguma for allegedly breaching a section of the Immigration Act. On going to court, it was found that the police had acted on false information and in fact the said witness who Samkange is alleged to have assisted gain entry into Zimbabwe was never allowed into the country.

- the assault of members of the Law Society of Zimbabwe who had gone to the High Court in Harare to protest the arrest and illegal detention og their colleagues, Andrew Makoni and Alec Muchadehama.

- the harrasment of students leaders at the National University of Science and Technology and the University of Zimbabwe by university security officers and police officers.
