Without permit does not mean without rights
Gabriel Shumba, Zimbabwe Exiles Forum (ZEF)
July 03, 2007

Zimbabwean illegal immigrants continue to suffer human rights abuses, including cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment at the hands of South African white farmers.

Zimbabwe Exiles Forum (ZEF) is appalled at the behavior of four white farmers who are facing charges of attempted murder. Even if the allegations of theft by the Zimbabwean complainants are well-founded, nothing justifies violent actions of private citizens who take law into their own hands. The fact that the illegal immigrants are not in possession of papers which legalize their stay in South Africa does not mean that they are without human rights. Illegal immigrants also have rights that accrue to them by virtue of their being human beings and their rights should consequently be respected and protected.
