Support
and solidarity to torture victims
Zimbabwe
Exiles Forum (ZEF)
June 26, 2007
Zimbabwe Exiles Forum
(ZEF) joins other civil societies and human rights organizations
in offering support and solidarity to everyone who has suffered
in the past, and those who continue to suffer torture. Numerous
cases have been broadcast and documented which expose treatment
which is cruel, degrading and inhumane, ranging from assault, attempted
murder, unlawful arrest and rape. Many Zimbabweans have been victims
of human rights abuses and ZEF has documented numerous cases amounting
to cruel, degrading and inhumane punishment or treatment by the
Zimbabwean government. Zimbabweans have severely suffered under
the tyrannical rule of the present regime and they continue to suffer
arbitrary arrests, torture while in detention, attempted murder
and assault. Women face a bitter reality of rape at the ZANU PF
bases in Zimbabwe, with some being intentionally infected with HIV/AIDS,
during such ordeals. It is sad when one ponders and reflects on
such cruelty invoked by crimes against humanity being committed
not in Zimbabwe alone but in other countries like Sudan, in Darfur.
Such treatment on fellow human beings should be condemned and the
perpetrators of such atrocities should be brought to justice.
The day is not
only a day of sparing a thought for victims of torture worldwide,
but it is a day of again drawing the attention of the world to the
suffering of torture victims, their families and their communities.
