ZLHR
files urgent application in the Magistrates' Court to stop evictions
at Porta Extension
Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR)
October 03, 2006
ZLHR today filed
an urgent application in the Magistrates' Court in Harare in efforts
to stop the impending eviction of families residing at Porta Extension.
A provisional
order was granted against the District Officer (Kuwadzana District
Office), the Director of Housing and Community Services, and the
City of Harare, which prevents them from evicting the affected families
without a court order, and/or from demolishing their properties.
The provisional order also prevents them from resettling other families
in the disputed properties.
The provisional
order also allows the Zimbabwe Republic Police to arrest any person
acting on behalf of the abovenamed offices and bring them to court
to face contempt of court charges in the event that the order is
ignored and evictions and/or demolitions are carried out.
We shall keep
you updated.
