The uniformed forces
are said to have been caught up in a wave of political tension following
reports that some soldiers in the Air Force of Zimbabwe (AFZ) are
either being threatened with job losses or suspension for expressing
political view that are in contrast with their superiors'.
Information reaching
the ZPP has it that in one case, SN (ID number provided), a former
soldier in the AFZ who was 'discharged' from the force
on July 1 2004 on allegations of supporting the MDC has been reportedly
receiving constant threats from the force after he spurned an 'offer'
to reinstate him in the force by a Wing Commander MN and a Squadron
leader only identified as M.
SN, who at one time was
allegedly assaulted in January this year by suspected ruling party
supporters was said to be in hiding after he reported the alleged
assault to Senga Police (case number CR323-01-05) who were said
to have done nothing to investigate the matter.
Six Zanu PF youths led
by MG, MN and DM, allegedly working on the instructions of unnamed
AFZ officials reportedly fell upon the said victim just before the
elections in March and allegedly broke his arms in the attack.
The victim, who is reported
to be under specialist treatment is said to be getting help from
well-wishers in the city and is living at an undisclosed location.
According to reports,
some soldier whe are suspected to be MDC sympathisers have been
threatened with job losses for their activities.
