Physical assault of Dr Lovemore Madhuku by the police

The Trustees of the Legal Resources Foundation unreservedly condemn the serious physical assault upon Dr Lovemore Madhuku, the NCA Chairman, by members of the Police Force on 4 February 2004.

The LRF, which has repeatedly condemned the Public Order and Security Act (POSA) as unjust, immoral and repressive, once again calls upon the Government and the legislature to immediately repeal POSA. The LRF urges the Police force to desist from violence towards members of the public and calls for the perpetrators of the assault on Dr Madhuku to be brought to justice.

This brutality by Police against defenceless civilians simply trying to exercise their basic right to demonstrate peacefully has now become characteristic of the behaviour of the Police in Zimbabwe.
