Arrest and torture of Gabriel Shumba

The Trustees of the Legal Resources Foundation wish to express their profound shock at the brutal arrest and torture of Gabriel Shumba, a registered legal practitioner and a human rights lawyer recently engaged by the LRF in its Harare office.

The LRF unreservedly condemns the police for engaging extralegal methods in their investigation of the charges preferred against Shumba and his co-accused.

The LRF hopes that a swift investigation will be launched into the torture of Shumba and his co-accused with a view to prosecuting the perpetrators of this abuse more specifically as the abuse has already been confirmed by a Government medical doctor.
