Zimbabwe AIDS Network (ZAN)

November 20, 2011

The Zimbabwe Aids Network is holding its national bi-annual conference on 23rd November, 2011 at the Great Zimbabwe Hotel in Masvingo. To be held under the theme "Scaling up, owning and sustaining community capacity in HIV prevention, access to treatment, care and support services", a total of two hundred (200) delegates (100 members and 100 stakeholders from around the country will be in attendance. The stakeholders include representatives from government, NAC, funding partners, UN agencies and cooperating partners.

Experts on MASH, ASRH, Rights, HIV and AIDS, Disability and Mental Health are expected to present papers during the Conference. The one-day Conference therefore, provides good opportunities for sharing insights and lessons emerging from various interventions being implemented by ZAN members in contribution to the national response. We hope that the outcome of the conference will empower communities to effectively respond to the epidemic, in order to achieve zero new infections, zero discrimination, zero AIDS related deaths.

The MNCH, ASRH, Rights, HIV and AIDS thematic areas being illuminated at the conference follows and builds upon the 2011- 2013 "Community Powered Response" Strategy which ZAN launched in May 2011. The new strategy embraces an integrated approach to the provision of health related services using a gender lens.

According to Lindiwe Chaza Jangira, the National Director for ZAN, "The conference will give us an opportunity to consolidate a shared vision and new strategic direction and strengthen linkages with national priorities.

The conference will be followed by the ZAN Annual General Meeting on the 24th November at the same venue.

ZAN is national membership network comprising of HIV and AIDS Service Organizations and other private sector companies, learning institutions providing MCH, ASRH, PMTCT, CHBC Rights and HIV and AIDS services. Founded in 1992, ZAN contributes to the effective response to the epidemic with communities accessing a continuum of comprehensive and integrated sexual and reproductive health and rights and HIV and AIDS services for improved Maternal Health outcomes.
