HIV/AIDS survey indicators database
October 19, 2004

This email is to familiarize you and/or inform you of new features and new information available in the HIV/AIDS Survey Indicators Database

  • HIV/AIDS Survey Indicators Database, similar to StatCompiler, allows you to select countries you want to look at and for which HIV/AIDS related data are available from DHS, MICS, SBS, some other population-based surveys and BSS target group surveys. Data are broken down by standard UNAIDS indicators, based on; National AIDS Programmes: A Guide to Monitoring and Evaluation;. The UNAIDS Guide proposes 15 areas, and the description of these areas and definitions for the indicators can be viewed at the Indicators section on the left-hand corner of
  • It is now possible to create country reports by the President's Emergency Plan indicators, some of which correspond to standard UNDAIDS/UNGASS indicators, while others were added to the indicator list. At the moment, where possible, these indicators are available for 15 PEPFAR countries, and from now on will be calculated for all DHS surveys entered into the database. You can download country reports by the President's Emergency Plan indicators from Country Report option on the left-side bar.
  • HIV prevalence data collected through DHS are now available under Program Area 15-Impact, by sex, separately for general population and youth 15-24. Available now are prevalence data for Zambia 2001-2002, Mali 2001, and Dominican Republic 2002. Prevalence data for Kenya, Ghana and Burkina-Faso will be included soon.

We encourage you to use this database in your work and distribute this information among those to whom it can be useful.
