Nkayi
Community Outreach
Padare/Enkundleni
in partnership with Campaign
for Female Education (CAMFED) are currently engaging a community
outreach programme in Nkayi District, Matabeleland North Province
which started on the 27th to the 30th of July 2010. This is a follow
up activity to the sensitization programme which was held from the
21st of February to the 26th of February 2010. The aim is to continuously
strengthen the capacity of both local leaders and people in general
on ways of responding to Gender issues within their community.
The Padare Community
Advocacy officer - Mr. Paul Juru highlighted that, "there
are still some casess of gender based violence being experienced
in the Nkayi area, a situation which is negatively affecting women
and children. Notions of negative masculinity and the fact that
some people are deeply rooted in cultural practices that undermine
women has been attributed as the major causes of such gender based
violence cases"
In all the meetings the
outreach team will target mainly the Police Victim Friendly Unit,
Dare raMambo (traditional courts), school authorities, religious
leaders and other key opinion leaders so that cases of GBV will
be readily addressed.
