Padare/Enkundleni
mobilizing men in support of women's issues in the constitution
Padare/Enkundleni/Men's
Forum on Gender
June 04, 2010
In light of
the current ongoing national Constitution
making process, Padare/Enkundleni/Men's Forum On Gender
through its Chapters, has embarked on a joint collaboration with
the Ministry of Women Affairs, Gender and Community Development
in engaging men within communities, to sensitise and enable them
to be informed on and support the key issues pertaining to women
and girls. This will enable them to effectively articulate and be
in a position to inform and influence their respective communities
to meaningfully make contributions to the outreach Constitutional
making teams for women's provisions to be in place with the
support of men.
Padare/Enkundleni
recognizes that given the critical and significant role men have
as decision makers in the household and community level, their informed
buy-in will ensure that community contributions with respect to
women's issues in the Constitution making process will be
timeless.
The mobilized
men shall help in articulating the following three main women's
issues: 50/50 representation of women and girls in decision making,
economic empowerment for women and girls and access to health services
for women and girls. These activities are being carried out in seven
provinces of the country. See table below.
