Men's Forum on Gender commemorates Human Rights Day
Padare/Enkundleni/Men's
Forum on Gender
December 10, 2009
Padare/Enkundleni
/Men's forum On Gender joins the rest of the world in commemorating
the World Human Rights Day celebrated every year on the 10th of
December.
This year's commemorations
are running under the theme Youth Alliance for Democracy is proud
to be part of the commemorations of this year's International
Human Rights Day. This year's theme is: Dignity and justice
for us all. This a befitting theme given the fact that there is
a lot of human rights abuses which were perpetrated to innocent
and unsuspecting innocent Zimbabweans as a result of political violence.
A lot of human rights
abuses have taken place over the years in Zimbabwe and across the
Globe. Women continue to be at the receiving end of violence, sexual,
verbal and emotional abuse. We call upon men in society to refrain
from causing untold suffering.
During the
time of political troubles women have been subjected to all forms
of abuse ranging from staying in bases together with men, being
sexually abused and beaten up. This should be stopped and we make
a clarion call to politicians of the day to desist from exposing
women to all these forms of violence .
Men organized under the
banner of Padare/Enkundleni Men's forum on gender will continue
to strive for a gender just society where all men and women are
treated equally and provided with the same opportunities in life.
We strongly believe that
women's rights are human rights too and the fight for democracy
and human rights in Zimbabwe is not complete without the realization
of women's freedoms.
