Padare in Gokwe
Padare/Enkundleni/Men's Forum on Gender
October 22, 2009

Padare/Enkundleni Men's Forum on Gender in partnership with Camfed are currently undertaking Gender Community mobilization meetings in Gokwe. These gender mobilization are taking place in Chief Jiri's area and there is a target of reaching out to about 500 men in this area.

Some of the activities involve promoting peace and coexistence in families, popularizing the Domestic Act and empowering villagers to report and act on Gender based violence that affect households as well as sharing experiences and ideas on how violence has affected negatively families and communities .

The traditional leaders have been of significant support to the cause of gender justice in Zimbabwe by ensuring that villagers attend such important meetings and also dealing very harshly with domestic violence offenders.

The Community Advocacy officer, Mr Paul Juru has said that the chiefs have been supportive of the ongoing campaign and are encouraging their communities to live in harmony," We continue to get support from the chiefs especially the one we going to and its encouraging when individuals and institutions long known for blocking and disregarding gender equity tend to share a lot of commitment and willingness to combat Gender injustices " he added.

It remains the pledge of Padare/Enkundleni to continue engaging men in the efforts to curb gender based violence in families and communities.
