Padare on a regional offensive

Tertiary Programme Update

Padare/Enkundleni, Men's Forum On Gender has dispatched a team of students to this year's Imagined Futures IV : sexualities and silences series to held in Pretoria South Africa. This year's series is running from the 29-30 September 2009 and is being hosted by the Centre for The study Of AIDS, University of Pretoria.

This is a platform that brings together student leaders, peer educators, student volunteers, HIV/Aids programme managers as well as Academics to discuss issues around sexual and reproductive rights, sexualities, gender and identities, gender based violence access to sexuality education as well as sexuality and HIV/ Aids.

Through our Tertiary programme where we engage tertiary students in the fight for gender justice and inculcating a culture of voluntarism, PADARE has sent a delegation led by the Mr, Nixon Nembaware, Programme Officer, Youth and Men Involvement. Other Members of the team include Lloyd Mudzamiri (President of the Padre Tertiary Council), Simon Bere of Morgan Zintec, Kelvin Chitauro of Gwebi and Mr Maxwell Rafamoyo a lecturer at Seke as well as the Patron for Seke Padre club.

Mr Nembaware said that they were confident that the team would benefit immensely in the discussion as they will be able to share experiences amongst each other,"we are looking forward to a worthwhile experience with our colleagues as we will be able to share notes and exchange ideas on how best we can come together to defeat gender injustice, sexual abuse. Furthermore we have put together a team that is capable to represent Padare and Zimbabwe at large", he said.

It is envisaged that the representatives of these various institutions will cascade down what they would have learnt from this South African experience to their fellow students back on campuses.

Meanwhile 60 tertiary students from Gwebi college, Kushinga Phikelela, Seke teachers and Morgan Zintec College converged at the Padare offices where they underwent gender training workshop over the weekend. The target groups were first year students who were then tasked to go and train more students on their campuses on gender issues with a bias towards creating a gender just environment in these institutions of higher learning.

Padare will work with these young men and women during the course of their studies.
